Our faces are the signpost for how we are feeling. As we age, those signs tend to stay put by way of wrinkles, writes Dr Steven Liew, Specialist Plastic Surgeon and Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons member.
We stress. We squint. We concentrate. Combine these with the normal ageing process and for some, they can take a heavy toll on the face, making you appear older or more tired than you are. Sun damage and airborne toxins also take their toll, leading to dryness and blotchy pigmentation of the skin, flatness to the cheeks and droopiness of the eyelids, jawline and neck area. The harsh reality is that the ageing process almost always makes our face look sad, bitter and angry.
Benefits of anti-wrinkle injections
The good news is that a series of anti-wrinkle injections can erase and soften frown lines, crow’s feet around the eyes, soften chin creases and smooth out neck banding. This can provide a very natural, rejuvenated appearance that still allows you to smile and express yourself very naturally.
The anti-wrinkle serum works by temporarily blocking the signal impulse between the nerve endings and the muscle and weakening the muscle that produces the facial lines.
How often do you need treatment?
Initially, treatments will be needed every four to six months, but fewer treatments are required as time passes and in some cases frowning habits are erased completely. This treatment is also often used with other products like dermal fillers to rejuvenate and re-shape the face.
The most common treatment areas for anti-wrinkle treatments are:
- Crows feet
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines
- Anti-wrinkle injections can also be used to control excessive sweating in the armpits (hyperhidrosis).
Non-surgical injectables have become the most sought after cosmetic treatment worldwide. Yet, now it is established as a safe, effective and essential part of keeping us looking at our best I am constantly amazed at the haphazard way some patients approach their facial treatments.
Engaging the services of a Specialist Plastic Surgeon and their practice staff will ensure that the treatment plan you are put on delivers results that are suited to enhancing and refreshing your natural beauty.
For me, the most exciting part of any facial treatment plan is helping patients understand we can give them something much more valuable than the standard marketing promise to make them look younger. As fashion icon Valentino simply stated when asked what do women want? he said, “They want to be beautiful”, and from my experience, I can’t agree more.
